H.M.S. NEW ZEALAND v HOSPITAL
The above game was played at Porirua under ideal conditions, and created a great deal of interest, as both teams had previously scored a win. Hospital took the field with a strong eleven, whereas the sailors were not up to full strength, M'Gregor being a noticeable absentee. The New Zealand team (black) kicked off, and at once became aggressive, and Trafford 6ent in a, fine shot, which was equally well saved by Porteous. Daily, Tyrer, and Hughes then became very prominent for the home team, but Son-ta-g eventually stopped them by conceding a corner. After a period of give and take play, Busby sent in a beautiful shot, but Porteous was very alert. The New Zealand forwards were now playing well and getting much the best of the play, but several goodo opportunities were lost through faulty shooting. The home team nt>w took a turn at attack,, and a fine movement by Batten and Riordan almost resulted in a score. Half-time arrived without score. On resuming, some splendid work by Laycock and Hamilton gave the Blacks an advantage, and Comley slipped between the opposing backs and had the goal at his mercy, but he dallied too long and Thompson saved the situation. The play was fast and at times very exciting. Rene and Thompson stopped an ugly rush of the New Zealand forwards, and' set their own forwards away, and Hughes had hard luck with a fast shot. From the clearance the sailors made a very determined attack, and a fine piece of play by Comley and Gibson ended in a grand shot by the latter finding the net. New Zealand 1-0. This reverse roused the Hospital, and Hughes and Tyrer were almost through, bufthe defence was solid. The New Zealand team then had a spell of attacking, and they were generally playing much superior football to the local team. A corner was obtained by Hospital, and Batten placed it well, the ball travelling along the crossbar, but the opportunity was lost. Shortly after, another corner was obtained, and, being well kicked, it was secured by Tyrer, who made no mistake. New Zealand 1, Hospital 1." The game ended shortly after with the score unaltered. R-eferee: Mr. C. Webster.
In the Fourth A Class final, Marist defeated Porirua by 2 goals to 1. Ryan and Tancred scored for the winners, and Lambert for Porirua. Thorndon (2) defeated Marist (1) in the final for the Seventh Class championship.
