OUR TROOPS IN LONDON

In a letter to the Minister of Defence, Brig.-General C. W. Melvill, commanding the N.Z;E.F. in Great Britain (who is due by the Corinthic), writes:—" On 3rd May, 1000 of our troops, all of whom had seen service overseas, took part in the march of overseas troops through London. They were commanded by Bri-gadier-General -R.; Young. In double column of fours they marched exceedingly well, and their appearance and bearing were most favourably commented upon on all sides. I am assured that our men received more than a proportionate share of the volume of appreciation and acclamation with which the vast crowds that witnessed the march greeted the whole of the overseas troops. I am well aware of the appreciation official and general of the superior fighting quality of our troops, but in addition to this it gives me great pleasure to report from opinions which have been expressed, ancwfrom information which has been acquired from various districts in which our men have spent their time, either on duty or on leave, that their general conduct has been excellent, a credit to New Zealand, and such as to ensure for New Zealanders not only the admiration, but also the respect of the people of Great Britain. I am quite sure that such was the feeling expressed by the magnificent reception accorded to our men. For the ceremony of the march past I was in attendance upon His Majesty the King, who took the salute from the front of Buckingham. Palace."
