NEW ZEALAND TRADE PROSPECTS

(PROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

- LONDON, 30th June. In an interview in The Times Trade Supplement, Sir Thomas Mackenzie, the High Commissioner for New Zealand, remarks upon the extremely good condition of trade in New Zealand. There is, he says, a certain amount of Labour unrest, but not nearly to the same extent as in other countries. Since January, New Zealand had been allotted about 60 per cent, of the tonnage available' for Australasia, and for May and June the proportion would be about 68 or 69! per cent. New Zealand had' felt very strongly about the quantity of refrigerator tonnage that had been diverted to the United States, and the high prices which had been paid for American meat, as compared with those paid for New Zealand - and Australian meat and left room for explanation.

Sir Thomas said he had no doubt there was room for very ■: great expansion in New_ Zealand. The United States were making enormous bid for trade In fact, one commercial man had remarked to him this week tEat they were out for the control of1 the Pacific, and were not leaving any stone .unturned to secure this. _ A soft goods warehouseman, who was in England buying for his New Zealand house, had informed him that he could purchase New Zealand-made woollens irrNew,Zealand at 25 per cent, less than he would have to pay for a similar quality article in Great Britain.
