CLUB GAMES AT KARORI
TWO EASY WINS;
Karori Park was in good condition for hockey on Saturday. Wellington met and defeated Central by four, goals to one, and Karori A defeated Karori B by eight goals to three. A match between H.M.S. New Zealand and Ramblers was to have been , played, but as several of the members of the battleship's team were being entertained elsewhere the match had to be abandoned. The New Zealand's team is meeting the Wellington representative eleven at the Basin Reserve to-day,, and another match will be played between the teams on Thursday next. With reference to the club matches, it has been decided to play a third round, and as Wellington and Bamblers are now equal, with Karori A only one point behind, the competition is most interesting. WELLINGTON v. CENTRAL. Wellington and Central met on No, 1 ground. Both teams played good hockey, and the game,was fast and open from start to finish. From the bully-off, the Wellington forwards instituted a nico movement, and for some minutes they kept up a solid pace. Play, however, changed suddenly to the other end of the field, and Central came very near to opening the scoring account. Wellington soon returned to the attack, but good work by Selig kept them out of the circle. They were awarded a corner hit, from which Central temporarily relieved.Wellington kept the pressure up, and Champness, who was playing well, brought the "white" up to a- handy position. O'Brien rushed -in and put on the finishing touches to a clever piece of play. Wellington, 1; Central, 0. Ceni tral attacked on the resumption of play, but their forwards' were not strong enough to carry the movement through, and play was soon returned to their twenty-five. Here some mixed play took place in front of the, goal, and Dunn sent the ball into the net. Wellington, 2; Central, 0... Central now made re,peated efforts to score, and before the halfrtime whistle sounded, Devonport had sent thei "white" home. Wellington, 2; Central 1. In the second spell, Wellington added two further goals to their tally. Central played well, particularly the back division, and the forwards lost many good opportunities of bettering their team's, position. Dunn and Johns scored Wellington's goals in the second spell. The game ended : Wellington, 4 ; Central, 1, Messrs. Manning and Needham controlled the game. KARORI A v, KARORI B. | Karori A defeated Karori B on T?p, 2 | ground by 8 goals to 3. The game was rather uninteresting, both from the play- ! era and spectator's point of view, Stratj ton (6), D. Hood, and Lowery scored i goals for1 the winners, and Hood scored ; all the losers' goals, Mr. F. Spiers was the referee.
