REARRANGEMENT OF PORTFOLIOS
The temporary allocation of portfolios, following the resignation of Liberal Ministers, is now complete. Sir Francis Bell will take . Public Health in the meantime. Otherwise the position is as announced on Saturday.
Some significance has been attached' to the fact that Sir James Allen has not taken any of the big portfolios which have become vacant; and. it has been suggested that this points to a change in the Reform Ministry. As a matter of ■fact, Sir James is_ taking one or two of the minor portfolios, which will not interfere with his work as Minister of Defence, and the reason for his accepts ing1 no heavier burden is that Defence, including, as it does at present, the administration of. Samoa, is sufficient to keep him very busy. The allocation of portfolios announced is purely temporary, and will most certainly be filtered. This, however, will not be until the session commences.
