MR. HOOVER'S ADVICE
ARCHDUKE JOSEPH SHOULD
RESIGN
RUMANIAN SINCERITY QUES-
TIONED,
(UNITED PRESS A6SOCJATIOH.—COPTRIOHT.)
(AUSTRALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) PARIS, 20th August.
Mr. Hoover urged the Peace Conference to compel the Archduke Joseph to, resign, declaring that the recent coup d'etat had given a great stimulus to Bolshevism. The . conference accepted his advice, and drafted a telegram to the Inter-Allied Mission instructing it accordingly, but decided to defer its despatch for 24 hours. . •
Mr. Hoover also censured Rumania's i attitude. He declared that her profes- ! sions of readiness to comply with the j Council's demands were insincere. She persisted in removing food, and had in- ! stigated'the Archduke Joseph's accession to office. Mr. Hoover suggested that i the Council should place a guard on the frontier to prevent the removal of food from Hungary. The council. is averse to such a drastic measure, but it may acquiesce. PARIS', 23rd August. * The Allied Supreme Council has re--fused to acknowledge the Archduke Joseph, declaring that his Government was established by a small group of Hapsburgera, and not by the will of the people.
