THE LATE COLONEL NEWALL, C.B,

The remains of the .late Colonel Stuart Newall, .C.B. * were interred in the Karori Cemetery this-afternoon,, with, full military honours. Largely attended by representatives of all classes qI the'community, the funeral left Bunny-street at.2.15.1: The cortege.,was headed by a firing party, 'composed'of members of , the R.N.Z.A.,, under Lieiutenant lJarkinson, and then followed the Trentham Band. The coffin, borne on a gun carriage supplied by. .the .R.IT.Z.A.J was draped with the flag which the deceased had carried with him during the South African war, while also on the carriage were floral tributes, including a wreath ■ from the "staff, and. patients"i of King Geiorge y. .Hospital, Kotorua. The high esteem in which,. Colonel Newall was held as a soldier was; evidenced by the large representation of the military, those ■present including Sir James Allen (Minister of Defence), Major-General Sir A. W. Robin (general officer commanding the New .Zealand Forces), >Brigadier-Gen-■eral G. S. Richardson (general officer in charge of administration);, and BrigadierGeneral D. J.'M'Gavin (director-general of the-medical service). Also among the followers were a number of Maori 'war veterans,, and members of St. Andrew's Church,, of which the .deceased was an old member. .
