Before the Wheat Commission Mr. Grahame, Minister for Agriculture, in his evidence, said' that the quality of the 1916-17 wheat was a nightmare. At the ..end of two years there was roughly 160^000 tons of wheat under quality in New-South Wales. The British Govei-n- ---, ment had refused to take delivery, and '.' the Government was not allowed to ■ send any- more to America. There was ."then only the. East left. The Georgeson , contract covered 72,000 tons, of a value of between £500,000 and £700,000. He :■ considered the sale mi excellent bargain . for the fanners.
