THE ONE BIG UNION
DENOUNCED BY N.S.W. MODERATES.
The following manifesto was issued during the inter-State Labour Conference in Sydney recently on behalf of the New South Wales executive of the Australian Labour Party, denouncing the advocates of the One Big Union and the "extremists" within the movement. The manifesto states :—
"During the first conscription campaign the. Labour* movement was a recognised force against the compulsory transportation of Australian soldiers oversea, and appealed to all shades of political thought to join in the campaign. This was the opportunity for the I.W.W. to get a leg in. Few in numbers and loud in voice, violently aggressive, maintaining their cohesiveness through organised factions and under several aliases, the 1.W.W.-ites set about "white anting" the Labour movement. The results of their work were first seen by the adoption by the Trade Union Congress in 1918 of the I.W.W. preamble as the objective of the 0.8. U. Acting through the 0.8. U. and its anarchy and destructiveness, they attacked the_ industrial unions with propaganda designed to destroy the authority of their organisations and bring about revolt amongst the membership. The 1.W.W., alias 0.8. U., then set out to capture the industrial section of the A.L.P. It soon succeeded in fastening the foreign I.W.W. preamble upon that section, and immediately commenced operations upon the A.L..g. itself. It is this organised conspiracy to disrupt and destroy the A.L.P. which has -been so decisively defeated at the annual conference."
