HOKITIKA, Ist July. ... A conference of representatives of West Cqa-st local bodies and the. <=awmilling industry' met Sir'Francis Bell to-day. Lengthy addresses were made, and the whole question of forestry regulations was discussed at great length. The position from the West Coast viewpoint was strongly .urged. ' Sir Francis Bell, hi reply, was decidedly. hostile to the representation for a revision of the regulations; but was more' favourable iji reference to the question of royalties affected. His statement of the position was received with disapproval and dismay. ■ The conference subsequently ■ resolved to enter a strong protest and make every endeavour to secure the repeal of those portions of the regulations which were considered bound to strangle the sawmilling industry on the West Coast. . ■ '
