NEED FOR A HOSTEL

FOR STUDENTS AND YOUNG

■TEACHERS.

The , need for providing a hostel in Wellington for students and young teachers is to be urged uppn the Government. At the meeting of the Wellington Education Board this morning, :the executive recommended:—"That the board ascertain what the intentions of the Government are in relation to the question of providing a hostel for students and young teachers, and, in the event of the Government having decided to take no action, that the board and the Teachers' Institute, by joint representation, present to the Minister of Education the urgent need for suitable hostel accommodation for students and ■■ young teachers."

The Chairman (Mr. T. Porsyth) said' there was no adequate provision made for the accommodation of young fellows and girls in Wellington who were away from home. Tho price charged for board and lodgings now was such as to be beyond the means of students. He considered that they should urge the position very, strongly on the Government.

The recommendation was adopted.
