EDUCATION BOARD

GRANTS FOR SCHOOLS.

The monthly meeting of the Wellington Education Board was held this morning, those present being the Chairman (Mr. T. Forsyth), and Messrs. E. M. Penny, E. M'Callum, R. A. Wright, M.P., J. J. Clark, J. P. Sliand, G. J. Hai'kness, G. London, E. P. Rishworth, T. Moss, W. Hogg, and W. H. Field. A letter was received from the Wellington City Council complaining of the wastage of at the city schools. The Chairman stated that only one school was complained about. v It was decided to notify the headmaster of the school concerned.

The secretary reported that the following grants had been authorised by the Government:—Kelburn, addition to site, £650; Poroporo, new school, £466; Berhampore, addition to infant department, £1397; Solway, new school, additional grant, £525; Muritai, sites, £800 and £210.

; The Executive Committee recommended that the deputation representing the Worser Bay School Committee be informed that the board has definitely decided to proceed with tho erection of a school at South Miramar, but will also make representation in regard to the acquirement of a site to serve North and Central Miramar. In the meantime members of the executive would visit, The recommendation was adopted. The secretary reported that the following resignations of teachers had been received since last meeting:—Miss K. Woodhouse, sole teacher, Resolution Bay; Mr. D. H. Jenkins, head teacher, Khandallah; Mr. F. C. Everton, head teacher, Feathei-ston ; Miss H. Blacker, assistant, Petone D.H.S.; Miss M. H. Sievwright, assistant, Mount Cook Infant's' ; Miss C. A. Smith, assistant, Hntt D.H.S. ; Miss E. M. Paine, assistant, Tokomaru; Miss 51- Simmonds, assistant, Belvedere; Mis. 0. A. Russell, assistant, To Aro; Miss M. M'Hugh, sole teacher, Waikakaho; Mrs. M. Barclay, sole teacher, Taratahi East. The question 'of holding an agricultural camp was referred to Mr. C. A. dimming, the senior instructor, in conference with Inspector Stuckey.
