A WAR SECTION
THE ART OF THE RETURNED
SOLDIER
. "We did not want to have all our eggs in one gasket," said Major Dunk, when discussing with the writer the variety of interest which the show affords. Let it be said to the credit of the Winter Show Committee that it very readily, and very quickly, included a war section when opportunity offered. This war section is devoted exclusively to returned convalescent soldiers in homes and hospitals, and covers a multitude of handicrafts, through the medium of which the soldier fills in his spare time with profit to himself. This year the association is making a specialty of the returned soldiers' exhibit, although it was included for the first time only a year ago. The decision was reached so late last year that the classes could not be included in the catalogue. This year the exhibit, which last year was crowded into the only vacant corner, is given pride of place, and the numbers of entries is surprisingly large. It will be remembered that the last show includod almost all things from the tiny woven basket to a gig, the carved ash-tray to the comfort-giving hammock. This year the public will have even a better opportunity of judging the work of the returned men. The prize money has been increased, and the scope of the competition widened, and in addition many of the articles will be seen in the course of making. It is not possible to say how long the association will be in a, position to include this very interesting section. The exhibitors receive a double benefit, for the show acts as a selling medium.
