EXTENSION OF TROUBLE FEARED.

:BElSßAte,llth,Miy-:::: The influenza visitation has brought the shipping trouble,, which .- has been browing fov some time, to a head. At' the time of. the New Zealand visitation' the creWs manning vessels •> trading- \ to infected ports were granted special rates. Owing to the shipping companies refusing to concede these rates the Queensland branch of the Federated Seamen's Union has declared a strike on the whole of the Queensland coast. Appeals have, been ■ made for support in the southern States. It is feared here and in the other States that tho trouble will extend throughout Australia, as the itnrest amongst seamen is general. . '- . The strike has rendered, idle a numbei of intercolonial steamers, which, however.1 will bo allowed to return to their home ports. ■ •■' . ■
