NO SIGN OF REGENERATION
COMMENTS OF NEW ZEALAND DELEGATES. PARIS, Bth May. Mr. Massey declared that the Germans' attitude was one of brazen effrontery. He expected them to display independence, perhaps defiance. Judging Germany by their action,, he says, there is no sign of regeneration of spirit of the people .of Germany. On the- contrary, he apprehended . serious trouble from them before the terms were finally agreed upon. He believed, however, tliat the Allies would stand_ by the terms in every important particular. . The impression among the British ' delegates is that the speech was so insolent that it calls for strong action. All were surprised at the tone. (Received May 12, 9 a.m.) PARIS, Bth May., Sir Joseph Ward, in tho course of an interview, said.that Count Brockdorff Rantzau spoke more ns a victor than as one vanquished, but obviously intended his speech for propaganda. There was no likelihood that the Allies would bleed Germany.
