WADESTOWN AND NORTHLAND

Tho annual meeting of tho . parochial district of Wadestown and Northland was hold on Friday evening, tho Vicar (Rev. J. Edwin Jones) presiding. The Vicar, in his opening address, referred to the history-making events of the past year, and made sympathetic allusion to the passing of Arohdeacon Fancourt, the last link of the first stage of the history of the Now Zealand Church. Turning to parish' affairs, he said the various organisations connected with tho church had dono excellent work, in somo cases under groat disadvantages. A new Sunday School or parish hall was badly needed. Tho present school wa3 in a dilapidated state, and waa inadequate' to accommodate all tie 6cholar3 and the Bible class. He commended this matter to the earnest. consideration, of tho parishioners. His grateful thanks were duo to the church workers and to the ladies who promoted the salo of work, which had brought in £105. Ho regretted the departuro of Mr. R. Pa-nkhurst, who had been appointed organist of St. Augustine's, Potone, and expressed his sense of tho help he had received from the vestry.

Tho report of the vestry, read-by Mr. F. J. Halae, churchwarden, stated that tho parish shared in the sorrow caused by the death of the Yen. Archdeacon Fancourt, who took a deep interest- in the, district and laid tho foundation-stone of St. Luke's. Church work in the parish had progressed ■ steadily during the .year. Tho finances of tho church had suffered somewhat owing to tho influenza epidemic; the total receipts, hovvovcr, were £139 in excess of last year's. Plans and specifications for enlarging the schoolroom had been passed by the City Council, and tenders were now being sought. Mr. H. Pankhurst, -Vicar's chui-chwarden, left tho district in October last, and Mr. G. A. Taylor had boon appointed in his stead. Thanks were given to the la.yreaders, Sunday School teachers, clioir members, decorators, ladies' guild, bellringers, and Mr. J. G. Cooke, for their services during the^year. The report concluded with an expression of thankfulness to God for delivering the world from tho horrors of war,' and praying that Ho would grant all nations grace and power to meet the problems that now confront them. ' Tho balance-sheet showed total voceipts amounting to £353 6s 9d, with balances in cash or in bank of £33 18s 2d.
