A GREAT MEMORIAL

TO. BE BUILT AT BRUGES CANAL.

The' Anglo-Belgian Union, of London, desiring to commemorate the heroic landing of the British forces 'on. .the -Mole at Zeebrugga and the blocking of the Bruges* Canal, has decided to promote 'a competition for i a memorial worthy,_ of that historic 'achievement. The initiative ■ has come from the Town Council of Bruges, with which the uhjon ie ow-operating. It -is hoped that the union will have at its disposal for the erection of the memorial a sum of £30,000. . It is . intended that the . memorial should take the form of a monument ■erected on the western side of the entrance to the Bruges Canal. As it is desired that- the monument should be visible at sea for a considerable distance, it is'tovbe. conceived on a I large scale, and the' height is not to bo less than sevjfcty-five feet from the ground line.
