FARMERS' PROTEST
1 ACCUMULATION OF FROZEN MEAT. <BX TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) HASTINGS, This Day. A large meeting of farmers on Saturday passed the following motions : "That this meeting views with.alarm the accumulation of frozen meat in New Zealand, and that the Government be requested to make emphatic representation to the Imperial Government, impressing on it tho extreme urgency of having the freezingworks cleared before the commencement of the next freezing season; and.that the Government should, demand the restitution of tho original position with regard to insulated space formerly attotted to the Dominions." "That this meeting protests against the inadequate space allotted to Hawkes Bay to the middle of May, which will not allow the works to kill the available fats." During the discussion one speaker said that the only thing tbe farmers could do was to let the English people know, through the Press Association, that they have six million carcases here bought at sd, per lb, anal that Argentine meat is being sold in England at Is 2d per lb. A strong deputation was appointed to proceed to Wellington in support of the resolutions, The - meeting also appointed two farmers to give evidence before the Industries Commission.
