MAYORALTY CONTEST
COUNCILLOR W. H. P. BARBERAT ONSLOW Meetings in connection with his candidature for the Mayoralty were addressed by Councillor W. H. P. Barber at Khandalla-h and Kaiwarra on Saturday evening. In congratulating the people of the Onslow district upon _a.ving joined the city unconditionally, he said that as a result of their decision they would1 secure water and drainage more expeditiously than would have been the case had they remained as a separate borough. In the event of his return he would endeavour to have these necessary works expedited. Khandalkh would 'be useful jin the future, he said, as a means of ro- ! lieving the congestion of the city, and therefore pressure should be brought to bear Upon the Railway Department with the object of having the service improved materially. The candidate quoted from his speeches in the House of Representatives to show that he had opposed the prohibiting of the running of trams on the Hutt-road. Had tha House accepted an amendment he had moved permission would have been granted to the council to establish a tram service to Kaiwarra. The meetings accorded the speaker unanimous votes of thanks.
