CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The Industries Committee of the House of Representatives commenced its Christchurch sitting to-day.

James B. Laurenson urged the establishment of iron works and the fostering of the oxisting industry. He urged the claims of Parapara, where there were excellent facilities for carrying on the industry. In the pig iron industry 70 per cent, of tho cost of production could be set down for labour.

The chairman said Mr. Laurenson's evidence regarding- the cost conflicted with that given in Wellington, and & thorough _ investigation would have to be made into the figures.
