MINED AREAS

The Admiralty, under date 3rd February, has. .issued a notice to mariners dealing with areas in which mines have been la-id by the enemy. Masters of ves-sels--whose -.voyages lie wholly in water;; other than the areas given below need no longer obtain route instructions before sailing, as all waters except those mentioned below are considered clear of mines, and complete normal freedom of navigation, as far.as they are concerned, is restored. The exceptions referred to above are as follows, and masters sailing in these areas must continue to obtain route instructions. All the waters of the Atlantic, North Sea, Baltic, etc., north of latitude 43deg north, south of latitude 63deg north, and east of longitude lldeg W. Arctic: Tho areas enclosed by latitude 61deg N., longitude 30deg E., and longitude 45deg E. The whole of. the Mediterranean and Black Seas. Atlantic Ocean : The area within a 90-milo radius of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Indiar^and China Seas: That portion of the Indian and China Seas \ which lies between longitude 70dcg E. and longitude 107deg E., and Asia and the Equator. New Zealand: The whole of the area, bounded ofi the north by latitude 30de£ S., on the east by longitude 179dcg E., on the south by'latitude 43 deg- S., and on the west by latitude 170deg E. . • * ■
