ISLAND TRADE.

One of the new boats which will hejp to overcome the present shortage of tonnage for our inter-island trade is the Siliafai, now buildIng by order of Messrs. A. Nelson and Son at Messrs. Bailey's Wharf in Auckland (says the Samoan Times). The vessel, which is expected to arrive after the hurricane season under her own power, is intended for the town of Safune, Savaii, and will take the place of the ketch Wave. The Siliafai will be a useful addition to our coastal fleet. She is 54£t long, and is fitted with a 50 horse-power marine engine, whicTi is expected to give her a speed superior to any other boat at present employed in these islands.

Ths French sailer Amiral Cecile was sighted about 12 miles oil Cape Palliser yesterday, and the tug Pelican was sent to tow her in. The tug returned, however, early in the evening without the sailer. ,The New Zealand Shipping Company are the local agents.

Eawhia is,making considerable progress as a port, but it is thought by some that the appliances for handling cargo are rather obsolete. A correspondent writing to the Settler advocates the erection of a concrete wharf to replace the present rimu structure! and states :t-"A little less .. ignorance of the requirements of the place and more consideration for those who snffer by the want of conveniences is necessary."
