CANOPUS DELAYED BY FIREMEN,

-Until late on Saturday night the Westport Coal Company's collier Canopus was held up at Lyttelton by the firemen demanding an alteration in the method of bunkering the veosel. For some years past the vessel was bunkered once for the round trip from Westport to Timaru and Lyttelton and back to the West Coast. As no trimmers are carried, the firemen have to bring the coal from the farther end of the bnnkers, and, in order to avoid this, they wanted tho vessel to be bunkered at each port of call. This was, stated the owners, the first time that any objection had

•been raised in reparel to the bunkering, and •, if the request was granted, it would mean ' that tW vessel's blinders -would never be empty. Finally, it was decided that the vessel would be more frequently bunkered.
