DEATH OP "EMPEROR" LEBAUDY.
M_ Jaquss Lebaudy, the w>mantio French explorer,, who was fatally shot by his wife in New York recently, belonged to the Lebaudy family which made a huge fortune in sugajf" under the Third Empire. . He may be described as an adventurer, in the sense of the word as used in the "spurious days of great Elisabeth." He sought adventures and was full 'of grandiose, schemes. After travelhiiff » good deal about the world he thought of founding a kingdom in the wilda of iado-Chma, but the French Government put a stop to that. He tried one ox two Tamote cornore of South America, but could not,find a resting place. Finally he bought a steam yacht, filled her up with a large armament, and went off to the then No Man's Land to the south of Morocco, along the Atlantic coast. There he set up his imperial flog, and Rent notifications to the Great Powero of the mew Power he had just founded, and forwarded the regalia of his new order of ohivairy to the leading sovereigns of the world, signing- himself "Your Brother," and "Lebaudy, the; First Emperor of tie Sahara." The French Government removed him and hie "empire." Since then lie has lived over the world at large. He gave the Paris newspapers material for a good deal of gossip and gentle chaff, and the world eoine amusement. Otherwise he led a harmless life.
