PETONE PEACE CELEBRATIONS
A meeting of the Petone Peace Celebrations Committee was held last evening, the Mayor, Mr. J. W. M'Ewan, presiding. The secretary, Mr. Hartley, reported that the' Gear Company'and New Zealand Picture Supplies had promised special illuminations, and theMunicipal Buildings would be illuminated. Special displays were expected from the Woollen Company and the Bank of New Zealand. The 'Hon. T. .M. Wilford stated that several captured German guns would be available. 11 was decided to ask Mr. Wilford to report progress, in regard to Post Office illuminations. The provision of an avenue of flags through the business portion of Jackson-street was already well in hand. Several carrying firms offered to provide carts and' lorries. . The Bonfire and Finance Committees gave preliminary reports. A Decoration , Committee consisting of Messrs. Kirkwood, Pointon, Blyth, P. Taylor, Cowie, M'Jenkins, and Wray was set op ; also a Musical Committee composed of Messrs. Parrfnt, Firth. Ramsden, and Eades, and a Procession Committee of Messrs. Parrant, Rose, Cox, Kearny, Campbell, and Wearne. A suggestion by Mr. Campbell for a special military display, if possible, under Captain Hardham, V.C., was adopted. It was decided to asfc Mrs. Love to endeavour to arrange f&r a Maori display. The Chairman outlined the programme for the religious. services to be held tn» previous Sunday, and also gave several suggestions for the proposed memorial, which -were tentatively discussed, j . , , *
