MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL

The monthly meeting of the Miramar Borough Council was held last evening in the Council Chamber, Miramar. The Mayor (Mr. F. Townsend) presided, and there were •present: Councillors H. K. Bobertshaw, W. H. Green, C. A. Chapman, and. M. Tracey. A letter was received from the W&ngwmi Borough Council in regard to repatriation of troops, and. it was decided to support the scheme. The Newmarket Borough Council wiote urging that local Fire Brigades be assisted by the Government, iiwirance companies, and local bodies. The council decided to rive support in the ■ matter. Councillor Chapman moved, "That the resolution of the council passed a* the meeting held on 18th September, 1918, with reference to the adoption of the report of the committee which conferred with the delegation from the Fare Brigade, be rescinded." This resolution dealt with the Borough Fire Brigaf* and the purchase of hose for nee by the council. The motion was rescinded by the council, and the Fire Brigade will therefore have the same status as before the date of the resolution. Two applications for the position of ranger to the borough have been received by the council. Some time ago it was deemed advisable by the council to secure the cervices of a ranger to take action against those owners who allow their cattle to. wander on the borough roads. A returned' soldier, Mr. C. r. M'Farlane, was appointed to the position. Councillor Green put before the council a suggestion that another car should leave Lambton Station at 5.1 p.m. for Seatoun. He stated that it was not uncommon to see the one car now sunning at that time packed to the limit of its accommodation, and, in his .opinion, another car could be easily filled. It was decided to communicate with the Tramway Department re this matter. It was moved by Councillor Chapman that a special meeting should bo called to consider the advisability of increasing the personnel of the council. The motion was seconded by Councillor Robertshaw, but was defeated.
