KARORI CLUB.
To-morrow afternoon the Karon. Club will fire its annual match for the "Johaston Memorial Cup." The cup was presented to the club in 1914 by the. late Brigadier-General F. E. Johnston, who was killed in action while serving witlx th« New Zealand Division in France. It is the fourth trophy of its kind donated by the late Brigadier-General, the first having been won outright by Rifleman J. Burns in 1910, the second by Rifleman G. Haliiday in 1912, and the third by Rifleman H V, Croxton in 1914. The present cup has been competed for on only one previous occasion, namely, in 1915, when Rifleman J. Cox (now with the Expeditionary Forces in Europe) registered the first win. The, competition has not since been carried out, but is now being renewed under revised conditions, the privilege of winning the cup outright having been withdrawn in order that the competition may be established as a permanent memorial to the donor. Winners each year will gain outright a miniature cup presented by the club. For the purpose of to-morrow's competition a. trophy has been awarded by Mr. T. Hull for the runner-up, and club trophies have been allotted for the third highest scorer and for the first and second highest scorers among the handicap clas3.
