YACHTING

A' fresh nor'-wester tested the seamanship of yacht owners on Saturday last in tho races held under the auspices of the Port Nicholson Yacht Club. Three events were held for Brst-olass, second-class, and third-class yachts. Six entries were received for the first-class event, the handicaps being:—Waitangi, acr.; Kotiri 11, ! 13min; Ailsa-, 16min; Rona, 18min; Ataianta, 20mm; and Viola, 26min. Tho Ailsa and Atalanta got awaj late. All tho yachts, under three reefs, beat to Koro Koro, and rounding- the buoy the Rona was well in the lead, with the Kotiri 11. following. Ailsa, after rounding- Jorningham buoy, set a course for Gorotnandel, overtook the Atalanta and Viola, and kept third place. The Rona. won easily. The finishing times are as follow:—Rona, 4hr 66min, 1; Kotiri 11, 4hr 53min 36sec, 2; Ailsa, shr smin 46sec, 3; Afalanta, shr 7min 20sec; Viola, shr 15min 20see. The Waitangi did not start. The . only yacht which completed the i course' in tbe second-class event was the Galatea (sol-.). The Wairate 11. (12min) had to withdraw on crossing the line, lolanths fl-min), Vonus (smin), and Rawene (Bmin) did not start. Galatea's finishing time was shr 13min lOsee. Only two yachts entered the third-class event, the Mira (smin) and the - Muritai (9min), and the former won easily in 4hr 30min 45sec. the Muritai finishing in 4hr 32min 30sec.
