Prohibition of export of tallow, hides, skins undressed, fur skins, and rabbit skins to the United States has been; withdrawn. New Zealand hemp may now be exported to U.S.A. under licence without limit as to quantity.. A strange fatality is reported from Sydney. A child of two years, named Myrtle Gunn, who lived with her mother, was playing in the backyard, in her mother's absence, when she caught her head in the loop of an old blouse which was hanging low from the clothes-line. She was found in this position soon after, and medical attention was secured, but the child died the same day. The jewellers' dispute will be considered by the Conciliation Council, Mr. W. Newton presiding, on Tuesday next. The jewellers are asking for increased wages and improved conditions generally. Wednesday, sth February, having been chosen as the date for the Watersiders' annual picnic, will be observed as a, holiday on the Wellington waterfront. Some time ago Mr. H. T. Johns, of Wellington, whose sou (Private G. C. Johns) has been on active service since August, 1914, sent to France several parcels of New Zealand soil to be scattered on the graves of New Zealanders who had given their lives for their country.
