HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL
The fortoightly mseting of the Lower Htrtt Borough Cottncil was held last evening. There were present: The Mayor (Me E. P. Rishworti) and Councillors A. J. Hobbs, A. J. West, W. Cotton, S. Ctetdon, W. Walton, W. Meldrum, J. M"Douga-11, J. Brasoll, and W.Kerr. Pormiasion was given the nmriagei" of the King George Theatre to hold a suitable picture entertairtment on Christmas Night. . ' ;' ' Residents of Hatftsna-squaro wrote asktingithat tho triangular section of land in the'centre of the square be acquired as a reserve for tho benefit of the residenfe of■the square, and expressing their willingness to provide the annual charges on a, I loan, if it is found uEoessary to raise one for thw pu-rpose. It was decided to refer the matter to No: 2. Committee for report. ! The Secretary of the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote oekiiig" for a retuth of cases' of destitution ■resulting from the influenza epidemic. The Mayor stated that. the information would be supplied. • , The Mayor of ChristohuToh wrote asking the Mayor to support representations, to' Government that substantial grants be made to all local bodies for the purpose of -relieving necessitous crises resulting from influenza. This was agreed to. The Christmas and New Year holidays for tho office staff wero fixed from the 24th December to 7th January inclusive. . The outeide staff will-be granted iholidays on 25th, 26th, an<l 27th December, and Ist and 2nd January. The matter of ths-frtb removal of refuse was referred to a committee. The. appointment of, Mr. %i. S. Wills, of Wellington, as latop-lijjhier for the borough v.as approved. There were 3J applicants. It was decided to pay employees three weeks' sick pay in the event of illness.
