A NATIONAL MUSEUM
' . 10 THE EDITOK. i Sir, —If you will kindly allow a email space in your esteemed paper I should like to make a. suggestion, now that suggestions are in fashion. In your issue of last Saturday there was a small article— "New Museum—Some Day," and' an announcement in the next column— "Memorial Anglican Cathedral." I happened to have the good luck to become acquainted with Dr. A. Thomson, the present Director of the Museum. Often have -we discussed the snbject of museum buildings, and invariably Dr. Thomson complained of the same thing —"elbow room" wanted—and "that oldfnahionod building." Seeing those two above-mentioned paragraphs an idea occurred to me—Why not have a "Memorial Museum" building? Anglican Cathedral—that means that only the Church oi England people will subscribe to the fund. Roman Catholics will havo thffF own, Baptists, Methodists, Jews, and the rest of innumerable sects and religions won't. subscribe anything or take any interest in the building naturally. 'Tis not so, with, a Mnseum—a memorial most appropriate and one that will interest any individual no matter what belief he ' may hold. The idea of a Mußeum is naturally an idea of a, memorial. TJpon studying some relic one's mind wonders back to places and circumstances the thing came from, so what is better than a War Memorial Mnseum building? A pabHe subscription surely will raise the necessary funds, and. with Government and municipal help, what a great and attractive building could be added to the number of fine buildings Wellington already has. With, your permission I ahooM like to invite the citizens of Wellington to express their ofAuom-et* tt»-m«tter.— I am. etc 1.,
