At the' Methodist Synod at Wellington this morning feeling reference was made ' to the loss the Church, had sustained throughl the death of the late Eev. S. Serpell, for edme years in charge of the Taranaki-street Church, and aleo a^' M'asterton, and the following '"motion was, carried in silence:—"This Synod ' expreaaec its sincere regret at the pass-' "j ing away of the Rev. §. J. Serpell, 1 a former minister in this district, and for many years the District Chairman.' We bear him in affectionate memory, as a brother beloved, a genial spirit, a wise administrator, and a faithful preacher of the Divine Evangel.. We convey to his daughter and son our heartfelt sympathy in the loss of a father so kind and j good and beloved." 1
Votes of condolence were passed by the Hutt County Council to-day to Mr. J. W.Cudby, county inspector; in the death from influenza of his sister, Mrs. J. Craig, of Upper Hutt, and'to Councillor W. Galloway in the death of his wife and son. .
The Rev. S. , Robertson Orr. of St. Andrew's Church, The Terrace, has gone South for a month's holiday. • Curing*his absence the, Revs. Frazer, Barton, and C. Porter Will take up his duties in. The Teirace Chnrch. The soldiers' Sunday Mcial will bs discontinued in' the meantim.
