TORRENTIAL RAINS ON MAIN TRUNK
ANOTHER SLIP ON THE, LINE,
(IT TBUGRAPH.—PBBSS ASSOCIATION)
TAIHAPE, This Day.
Torrential rains are falling the Main Trunk line. North of Taihape they brought down a slip on the railway, between Ngarukehu and Hihitihi,' into which a long empty truck train ran. The cowcatcher was struck by a tree trunk, derailing the engine and some trucks. The Auckland express was delayed for several hours. A gang of men with picks were promptly on the scene, and, after working all night, f,hey had the < line cleared by nine this morning, which enabled all train services to be run as usual. *
During the last twenty-four hours th« weather experienced has been most severe,' and unseasonable' in character —torrential rains falling in Taihape district and heavy snow in the higher altitudes in the Waimarino district.
