' THE TROOPSHIP EPIDEMIC. Mr. -M'Callum asked the Minister of Defence in the House of Representatives to-Tlay if he would even at this late hour of the session, have a committee appointed to inquire into the epidemic on the troopship which carried the 40th Reinforcements. He would be willing to stay beyond the end of the session to have the inquiry. Sir James Allen said he was quite prepared to set up the committee, as he had. given notice to, and to stay himself. He did not know whether other members would be. Mr. Malcolm said he was prepared to stay, but he thought it would be useless after what they had seen of the epidemic here.
