NEW ZEALAND'S " BISLEY "
RIFLE ASSOCIATION'S MEETINGS I ■ TO RESUME. j It -will be very gratifying to riflemen i to know that there is now no obstacle to an early resumption of the annual competitions of the Dominion Rifle Association, which were so successfully held in the years previous to the war. "The chief executive officer (Colonel R. J. Collins, C.M.Gr.) is already moving in the matter, and lie has got into touch with the Rifle Club Executive which is holding a meeting this week to discnss the position. It may not be possible to hold the championship meeting at tho usual time of the year, as tho want of new rifle barrels is a very important factor which affects the success of the gathering. Sir James Allen lias made arrangements to put new barrels on the rifles of New Zealand soldiers overseas, but care will also be taken to assure an adequate supply for riflemen as soon as possible. The G.O.C. has assured Colonel Collins that accommodation facilities will be given to him. Though not much interfered with by the troops in camp, thanks to the care exercised by the Commandtot (Colonel Potter, C.M.G.) in keeping actual ranges free from buildings, the butts and firing points will require to be put in order, while new equipment for targets will be necessary. Major J. G. Roache, D.5.0., the former secretary, has returned from the front, and will again take up his secretarial dirties, while Major Wallingford, M.C., will render every assistance to tiie association. Taking everything into consideration, there is a bright outlook for a big meeting towards the end of the coming year. The local riflemen should, however, bo able to resumo their shooting on the mnge at an early date, and probably will be able to hold their annual competition there. With this object in view Colonel Collins and a committee from Rifle Clubs' Executive will visit the rifle range at Christmas. .
