The R.M.S. Paloona sailed from Wellington yesterday afternoon for Earotonga, Papeete, and San Francisco. At 12 o'clock the vessel was short of two firemen, but these men were eventually secured, and the Paloona cleared the Heads at 5.35 p.m. Her officers are:—Chief, Mr. •■ T. Bowling; second, Mr. E. ', The Mokoia, for somo time a Bpecial service rteamer, has now been banded over to her former owners, the Union Company, and she is at present loading general carpo at Dunedin for Auckland. An arrival at Lyttelton on Saturday was the French ship Duquesne, 85 days out from San Francisco, with a general cargo for New Zealand. Captain C. ilenier is in charge of the vessel, and be has associated with him Mr. Aiigue Turpln (first mate), and Emile Kabineau (Second mate). The Duquesne was built at Nantes, France, in 1901, and was fitted two years later with a wireless apparatus. THE KENT' 3 PROTRACTED VOYAGE. The New Federal-Shiro Kent, which arrived at Auckland on Friday from London, via Australian ports, after a voyage of 87 days, left London on the 7th September, and was-delayed at Plymouth for a nnmber of days. She was held up for about a week at Capetown, reaching that port at the height of the influenza epidemic. From the latter port she proceeded to Fretriantle, where she iwas quarantined for a week. During the whole of the voyage tha crew were only allowed ashore at two ports, Melbourne and Sydney. The Kent is a fins looking vessel, having a large cargo capacity, while she is elaborately camouflaged. This is the vessel's first trip to New Zealand, having only been completed a short time ago. There is no sickness on the vessel. With oil and timber on board the tornmasted American schooner MJndoro has arrived at Lyttelton from San Frandsco. The Mindoro cleared from the Golden Gate on the 10th September, and experienced a calm passage across. A. 8. ■ General curgo will be taken to Melbourne to-morrow by the Union Company's steamer Kaltangata. The Kent is dns at Wellington on Friday from Anoliland to discharge a part cargo. She will later discharge at Lyttelton and Dnnedin, and will then be loaded for London by the New Zealand Shipping Company. The Paparoa will probably leave Wellington on- Wednesday evening for London, via Panama. '■ During -the month of November 24 steamers, representing 13,454 tons, entered' the port of Westport, and 22 steamers, representing 11,429 tons, left the port. The total tonnage for the? month was 24,883. The Eegulus, which arrived at Wellington on Saturday morning from Tarakobe, went on the Slip this morning to undergo, her annual overhaul.
