BRITISH AMD FOREIGN SAILORS' SOCIETY
the generosity of the New Zealand Shipping Company, Mr. C. R. Smith, Mr. C. H. Seville, Mr. M. M'Lead, L.M.M., and many others who rendered financial and other assistance, the committee of the Wellington Branch of the British and Foreign Sailors' Society was able to arrange a very pleasant outing in Seatoun Park' on Saturday, for sailors off the various ships in port. After lunch in the rooms of the society, in Queen's Chambers, the party journeyed by tram-car to the seaside resort. Owing to the uncertainty of the weather, the party was not as large as had been expected, but those present spent a very, enjoyable time with football, rounders, and other games. Refreshments were served during the afternoon, and after tea on the grounds, the party returned to the city. The gathering was soon augmented by the addition of many sailors who had not had the opportunity of taking part in the day's amusements. Parlour games and singing were indulged in, and after supper a very pleasant day's festivities wa« brought to a> close by the singing of the British and French National Antneme. There were several French sailors present. On Sunday night the usual 5 o'clock tea was provided, and was well attended. The tea was followed by a bright Gospel service.
