PERSONA!,. , Word has been received in CUristchurch that Engineer-Commander K. E. Low, of the s.s. Wahine, has been awarded the D.S.O. He was' bom In Nelson, being a son of the late Cap tain Low, harbourmaster. He served his time as an engineer in Wellington, and afterwards went Home, returning to the Dominion as an engineer on the first trip of the Arahura. He has served in the Wahine since she ,was taken over by the Admiralty, rising to the position of engineer-commander. He was the only officer in the vessel to. receive the decoration. Mr. J. Low, of Addington, is a brother of Commander Low. , Captain J. Smith, of the Northern Steamship Company's steamer Gael, has died from influenza. SALVOR NOT YET AEEIVED. The Shaw, Sarill, and Albion Company announced this morning that tha Arawa will probably be ready to leave Wellington on New Year's Eve for England. The New Zealand Shipping Company hopes to have the loading of the Paparoa completed by to-morrow. At last week's meeting of the .Otago Harbour Board it was resolved to suspend the regulations relating to sick pay. and to pay full wages to all hands who had been off dut) owing to the influenza epidemic. It was pointed out that 27 employees of the board were effected. ' Six steamers laden with jute goods are at present bound from India to Australian ports. Richardson's steamer Kahu, which is taking a cargo of case oil to Napier to-night, is due back at Wellington on Thursday.
