HEALTH MINISTER'S PROMISE
In reply to questions to-day about the prospects of orphans of the epidemic the Minister of Health (the Hon. G. W. Russell) gave an assurance that the Government would. approach the problem sympathetically and kindly. Meanwhile the best possible use would be made of existing machinery, not in any spirit of i "cold charity." He was satisfied that' valuable use could be made of the organisations which had helped during the epidemic. They would be able to advise the Government- in matters of detail. The Government would make proper provision not only for temporary necessity but for the permanent welfare of the children who needed the aid' of the State. One suggestion was that kind persons in country districts should be asked to adopt such orphans. He felt sure that if such a proposal was adopted the .Government would be prepared' to *übei-
