Mr. F. J. Gunn has been elected chairman of Te Aro School Committee for the remainder of the present term, vico the late Mr. H. A. W. M'Kenzie' Mr. William Smith, of Hopper-street, who died on Saturday night at the age of 28, was a eon of Mr. R. W. Smith, Happy Valley-road, Brooklyn, and was educated at Mt. Cook School. He was a .member of tha Zealandia Rifles, arid saw service with the force that occupied Samoa. He was also a member of the Pacific Lodge, No. 2, U.A.0.D., and the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners, having served his time with Messrs! C. C. Odlin and Co. He leaves a widow and! young daughter. Th» funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon.
