ENDLETSBERGER CASE

"MISLEADING INFORMATION" HIS VISIT TO ROTORUA. (IT MLEOBATH.—SPECIAL 10 IBS POST.) AUCKLAND, Thia Day. The following letter regarding the temporary release of Dr. Endleteberger from Motuihi has been received from Dr. H. Bertram, of Botorua, and published in The Herald. _ . ■ "In view of misleading information that has been given to the public concerning Dr. Endletsberger's visit to Roto- I rua, the following facts should be placed on record : (1) Mrs. Rayner had been under my medical care for some six weeks prior to Endletsberger's visit hero. She has never at any time expressed a desire to consnlt him, nor had any consultation been considered necessary, as Colonels Mills and Herbert, Major Abbott and Dr. Price, were available in the town. (2) Mrs. Rayner was convalescent for some time before Engletsberger visited Rotorua. (3) Dr. Engletsberger arrived on 23rd November. He came to my house on 25th November. This wns the first knowledge I had of his presence in the town. He said that his object in visiting me was to deny the rumour that he had visited Mrs. Rayner professionally. He had been sent to Rotorua to convalesce after working among the Maori soldiers at Narrow Neck. He only called on Mrs. Rayner sqcially, as he was staying in the same hotel: The last idea he nad in his mind was to interview Mrs. Rayner professionally as he knew I was attending her. The brief interview with him at my door, then terminated. He left Rotorua the following morning, and as far as I am aware, he has never attended Mrs. Rayner in any professional capacity. (4) As Endletsberger waß interned about April, 1616, it is obvious that he could not have attended any patients for two and a half years. This fact was not considered by the authorities as sufficient reason to call for an inquiry whether Endletsberger's presence was necessary or deßired by my patient." EmJletaberger's allege* statement that he attended Maori soldiers at Narrow Neck camp is denied by the military authorities.
