"A SHAM FAMINE"
ATTEMPTS TO DELUDE ALLIES. (AUSTRALIAN-NEW MAUSD CAILI ABSOCIATIOH.) (Received December 6, 9 a.m.) WASHINGTON, 4th December. . Germany's attempt to create a sham famine and stir up a feeling of leniency in Allied countries is exposed by semiofficial diplomatic advices, which reveal that there is adequate, though limited, food in Germany. Cereals are plentiful enough to permit increasing the daily bread ration to 500 grammes, while sugar stocks exceed the needs of peace time. Potatoes are plentiful. The food administration officials ridicule Germany's attempt to stampede the Allies into sending abundant supplies of food to Germany, which boasted of its ability to feed itself for another year. Bavaria has more cattle than she had in peace time.
