RESTRICTIONS ON MAORIS
The restrictions imposed on Maoris travelling by train were mentioned by Mr. A. T. Ngata in the House of Representatives, yesterday. Mr. Ngata said that the member for the Northern Maori District, travelling to Wellington to resume his Parliamentary duties, had only been able to do so on a pass signed by Dr. Freugley. He suggested the restrictions should now- be removed. The Maoris had had a sharp lesson. The Hon. G. W. Russell said the c»ly restriction authorised was on Maoris travelling to tangis and meetings. If any officer had prevented Maoris from travelling on ordinary business he had acted beside the instructions. Ho regretted exceedingly that a member of Parliament had been subjected to the humiliation of having to apply -for a pass.
