WAR CONTINGENT ASSOCIATION
At the August mooting of the New Zealand Wai' Contingent Association in London, Mr. I. W. Raymond presiding, the difficulty of obtaining money from the Advisory Board, Wellington, was brought up by the chairman. He explained that he had cabled to that board for a monthly remittance of £2500, with, which to carry on the important work the association was engaged in. General Richardson had the.figures submitted to him and quits approved of the outlay; He kindly cabled the Minister of Defence supporting the application. "Despite the splendid record of the association, and' the fact that the Advisory Board, Wellington, has had the strong commendation of Colonel Hughes, now in the iDominion, of the work that has been done here, and' tho backing of the G.O.C. of the New Zealand Forces in the United Kingdom, the board turned the application .down. It is impossible to fathom the reason for such an unprecedented course on tho part of the board. If this association, with its influential executive, each of whom keep in close touch wijth the work here, and know the requirements, has not the confidence of the members. of the board, it is- time the board said so." ■ The Chairman stated, that he did know that the asociation had the confidence of the people in tho Dominion, and of every returned 1 soldier. After considerable discussion it was resolved to elect a small committee, and if necessary that the committee should wait upon the Prime Minister and Sir Joseph Ward. This step was considered the wisest before appealing to the people, of the Dominion, for necessary funds to carry on the important work in hand.
