The deceased gentleman, who was 73 years of age, had been a resident of Shannon for the past 25 years. Mr. Richards was born in Wanganui in 1845, and was the youngest son of the late Joseph Manuel Richards, who was one of Wanganui's earliest settlers. Prior to settling in Shannon Mr. Richards resided in Wanganui, where he was a steward of the Wanganui Jockey Club, being associated with the late Dr. Earle, and always took a keen interest in all public affairs.
