Before the fortnightly meeting of the Finance Committee yesterday the Mayor of Onsloyr (Mi\-J. M. Dale) and Cpunqillor A. B. Topp waited on the Mayor of WelUngton (Mr. J. P. Jjuke) to explaiii the trueimvardues3''of theconditions they had laid down as a basjs for, the consideration ': of amalgamation (which have already been set put in'these columns). ,■ at '.the'; meeting of the Finance Committee, the report, of Messrs. J. Ames and C: Cdllins on amalgamation with Onslow was received,. •'. This report contained a considerable amount of data concerning tjie borough, and its affairs, which could scarcely be assimilated there and then by the members of the committee in the time.at their disposal. They will.be given time to consider the report, and later a report will be presented to the council. .
. "Generally speaking," said the Mayor, "the feeling of the committee is favourable, to the proposals as submitted.
