WATKATO COMPANIES ANNOUNCE
AN INCREASE.
The public is soon to feel the effect of, ;the recent increase in wages, granted "to miners. During the negotiations it Was openly stated that any concession to the men would be'passed on '; in effect, that whatever increases the men received would be paid by the public, who would be charged more for their coal. ■The local representatives; ol Waikato companies were advised to-day tbit the following increases/would operate from to-morrow, Ist October: Household coal, 2a per ton; steam and kitchen coal, Is 6d per ton; rough (unscreened) coal, ;Is per ton. This increase, it is stated, is regretted by the companies, but has-been made necessary solely'by the granting of 10 per cent, additional wages to the njiner's.
