AN IRISH RETORT.
An unmistakable Irishman. entered a crowded street,car, with a',-short-stemmed pipe in the corner of his mouth. The conductor eyed him with great disfavour for several momenta, and then, seeing that Pat exhibited no apparent tendency to correct the error of his way, strode into the car, tapped the offender on the shoulder, and spoke as.follows: —"Don't you know that you can't smoke in this car?" "I'm not smoking," came the reply. "You are," retorted the representative of the company. "I'm not," said Pat. "Well," demanded tho irate official sarcastically, "you've got your pipo in your mouth, haven't you?" "I have," replied Pat calmly, "and I've got me feet in ma shoes, too, but I'm not walking, am. I?"
