Captain J. D. S. Phillips, who for several •years -was master of the E.M.S. Makura, hasbeen appointed .assistant marine superintendent ■to the Union Company at Sydney. Captain ■Phillips is now on three months' holiday leave prior to taking over his 'new duties. The Harbour Board's tally clerks met last evening for the purpose of honouring Messrs. T. Stuppies (first assistant wharfinger,', ana Mr. D. W. Alexander (second assistant wharfinger). On behalf of the clerks Mr. H. E. •Nicholls .(Secretary of the Harbour Board) presented Mr. Stuppies with 'two Morris chairs and Mr. Alexander also with a Morris chair. ixT. .Stnpples has been employed on the wharves, sinoe 1878. . The Glaucus is due at Wellington on Mon. day from Auckland with a part cargo of euperj)hosj)hates to discharge here. . On Thursday tie will sail for Bluff.
