DEFENCE EXPENDITURE
AND THE EFFECTING OF
ECONOMIES.

PALMERSTON N., 15th August. The trustees of the Manawatu branch of the National Efficiency Board to-day passed the following motion :—"That this board of business men views with regret the extravagant methods of expenditure of some branches of the Defence Department, as disclosed in the report of Sir Robert Anderson and his colleagues, and trusts that the Efficiency Board will be invited to act as civilian representatives on the board which has been set up by the Minister of Defence to advise the Government as to the means by which economies may be effected."
